The newest addition,a sweet heifer born to Honey yesterday afternoon.
Honey is a first time mom,a Hidden Meadow Farm born and bred baby herself.
Her grandmother,Ginny, was my first cow,her father,Lucas, my first bull.
This calf is the result of all of my years of breeding.
I think she is a fine Highland!

Wow!
I feel as if I can grab a quick moment for a little farm update. It will be a slight mishmash so bear with me.
Easter weekend proved to be crazy busy for us.
We had four calves born in less than 24 hours!
Good Friday around 10pm Sugar, our Jersey Highland cross gave birth to a sweet bull calf.
I was quite worried at what appeared to be alot of blood,it ran 5 feet outside of her birthing pen in a big pool.
I checked her to make sure things where ok.
Her hind end looked normal and her afterbirth followed shortly after.
The coyotes where howling in the distance and had we debate her safety with the blood but took comfort in knowing she choose the steel bull pen to birth in,we locked her in for the night.
It turned out in the daylight not to be as bad as I thought, the blood was mixed with birth fluid and water made it seem far worse than it was.
Sugar and her calf have now moved to her new home .
It was hard for me to let her go but I take comfort in knowing Marissa will love her as much as I did/do.
I'm happy to report she has already settled and has been milked a few times already!
I'm sure you will love Marissa's blog so I encourage you to pop over and maybe you will get to read something about Sugar sometime.
Saturday was beautiful and I decided it was time to saddle up my mare for the first time this year.
She was fantastic and the ride was great.
I'm counting down the days before we take her to get bred, 5 to go!!!
Next Spring will be crazy busy for us but I'm hoping to finish up calving and a foal will be born 2 weeks later, just a little break before he/she comes.
Turns out my mare was pregnant with twins on her first and only breeding so heres hoping we do not have a repeat of that,we will ultrasound on day 15 to be sure.
During my ride I was told Lily went into labor,I finished up my ride and went back to check her.
She was standing over a sweet heifer, the blackest one we had born here besides her father.
All dry..
Only a few hours later another little black girl was born to Robin,
Oh and that red head behind her...she made her way in to the world the next morning, born to Ginny!!!

Jerseyland #3
Ginger surprised me today with a gorgeous black heifer.
Her legs are so long,I think she must be as tall as my big Maremma farm dog. By far the biggest calf ever born on this farm.
I'm so in love with her!
I have been feeling very sad about Sugar leaving in the next couple of weeks so this was a great surprise,a beautiful Jerseyland heifer to love.
I have named her Ebby.

Calving
Life continues to be busy.
A calf was born yesterday, another heifer.
She is a sweet red head, large and strong.
It was a beautiful sunny day so Lysa wondered off from the fold to a nearby grove of pine trees to birth in peace.
She mooed gently to greet the life she had created. I could tell by the low call that a cow had just freshened.
I was not the only one who recognized the call, all of the cows ran to her, greeting the new calf.
After separating them from her I was able to grab a few pictures of the little one.
So far 3 calves, 7 to go....

Wordless Wednesday~ Baby Winter
Last evening we welcomed the first heifer of the year, a beautiful healthy dun.
I named her Winter as it was the last day of winter and a snow storm here.
More later.
