Down Time
The past two weekends I have been trying to get our cottage open for the season.
The mice took up residence and made a terrible mess.
I have to still tackle the bedroom but the kitchen/living area and bathroom are all ready.
Front yard view at the cottage,9pm
We had a really old fridge in there, you know one of those big mustard yellow ones?
Well we found a really nice side by side on Saturday for home so we took our tall skinny fridge to the cottage.
It's amazing how much extra room it made.
I added a sheet and some pillow cases to cover my, oh so ugly pink and grey couch.
I would have loved to replace it but it is a pull out and when company comes it becomes their bed.
I don't think my $20 fix looks to bad.plus it's washable!
On the farm we have a few new additions.
Ten Eastern Wild x unimproved Bronze turkeys, they will stay until big enough to go to freezer camp.
In a few short weeks we will be adding a Berkshire pig,he to will be going to freezer camp in the fall.
The cattle are doing well grazing the pastures.
In another few weeks we will turn Yeoman in with the girls to breed.
It will give us calves the end of March.
This time of year is great, we get to work hard all week on the farm and enjoy a bit of down time at the cottage as well.

Horse Hives
Fancy has had some trouble with hives.
These hives are from switching her feed.
She had thousands of them.
We do not know what she is allergic to but it sure does a number on her.
Currently we can only feed performance pellets to her.
This ended up being a very scary costly night.
She had this terrible reaction then showed signs of "mild gassy colic". Fancy collapsed on her side and could not rise, when we did get her up she tried to go down again,we got her in time and started walking.
We called the vet and he came out and gave her pain meds, anti inflammatory, antihistamine and tubed her with mineral oil to prevent colic and to stop the absorption of what was causing the reaction.
He was not sure if the cause was a grain or what.
By 3pm the next day she was feeling like her old self.
Has anyone delt with horse hives?
If so what were they from and how did you prevent them?
